Operation Christmas is a local program that serves over 500 families each year who
are in need. Families are given food, clothing and toys for children to ensure they
are able to have a happy Holiday season.
Since 2011, COTG has partnered with Bolingbrook’s Operation Christmas, donating over
$15,000 to purchase toys to donate to families in need during the holiday season. COTG
held a three week long fundraising event, “Three Weeks of COTG Christmas,” with all
proceeds going to Operation Christmas.
“If it wasn’t for COTG and the Bolingbrook Firefighters, we wouldn’t have been able to
do it,” said Lee Bush, Sr., Operation Christmas Co-Chairman. “Everyone really came through
again this year; we really appreciate it.”
Every year, COTG executives and Bolingbrook Firefighters combine their funds and go
shopping together to purchase new toys for the children of Bolingbrook.
“COTG donates thousands of dollars for the annual shopping trip, which is solely raised
by the generosity of their employees,” said Bolingbrook Firefighter Alex Davis. “The
Bolingbrook Firefighters Local 3005 hopes to continue this tradition for many more
years to come.”
On Tuesday, December 16, over a dozen volunteers from COTG and the Bolingbrook Firefighters
went shopping at Target, overflowing their carts with the newest toys for boys and girls.
On Friday, December 20, COTG employees went shopping again with remaining funds with all
toys donated to Operation Christmas.
“I participated in this great cause because Christmas is such an exciting and magical
time for children,” said Gina Lyerla, COTG Chief Financial Officer. “I welcome the
opportunity to volunteer in order to provide children a Christmas they may not have
In addition to donating money, on Tuesday, December 2, COTG employees donated their time
in assisting Operation Christmas with the setup of their donation site at the Bolingbrook
Performance Arts Stage. Employees helped sort through thousands of food items and organized
hundreds of brand new toys and gently used clothing.
“With the madness of the Holidays, it was great to give some time to volunteer two years
in a row for Operation Christmas,” said Theresa Cuyugan, Specialized Billing Team “I was
amazed at all the donations we were able to sort through; it shows that there is still
good in the world.”
