COTG DONATES OVER $6,000 TO BREAST CANCER RESEARCH
On Saturday, October 26th, COTG employees banned together in the brisk morning weather,
to support and honor close family and friends that have been effected by breast
cancer, by walking in COTG’s second annual Breast Cancer Walk.
Teams of employees campaigned vigorously for almost two months before the event,
in competition with each other, to raise the most funds. The four hour event was
filled with theme laps and entertainment for employees, as well as friends and family,
to support those whose lives have been touched by breast cancer. The goal for the
event was to exceed the previous year’s donation of $4,348. The results of the weeks
of fundraising proved to be successful, with the grand total coming to $6,345, far
exceeding the set donation goal.
All proceeds from the team fundraising were donated to the Chicagoland Affiliate
of Susan G. Komen. Of the money raised by COTG, seventy-five
percent of the proceeds are dedicated to fighting breast cancer locally in the Chicagoland
metropolitan area. The remaining twenty-five percent is contributed to the Komen
Grants Program, which funds research and education programs.
The Chicagoland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® was established in 1997
and is one of 122 local affiliate offices around the country. Komen Chicagoland
Affiliate has awarded over $10 million towards the fight against breast cancer by
funding grassroots breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment
projects, as well as national research. Susan G. Komen’s promise is to save lives
and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all
and energizing science to find the cures.
